Watch the monstrous footage of a dog being run over in Gračanica

After footage was posted on social media last night showing a resident of the village of Rašljeva near Gračanica, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, deliberately running over a dog with a tractor on a local road, there have been numerous reactions from citizens across the country. Animal protection associations have been particularly vocal.

After the footage was posted on social media and following numerous calls, the Gračanica police arrived at the scene, along with a vet from the Gračanica Veterinary Station.

The police have identified the perpetrator of this vile act, and according to Avaz, he is S. M.

Before that, vet Nerman Avdić, a doctor of veterinary medicine, was doing his best to save the poor animal's life.

"I found a seriously injured Husky, completely immobile and whimpering. We brought him to the Veterinary Station in Gračanica and treated him. Today we are taking him to Lukavac for an X-ray. We suspect that either the spine or the pelvis is broken or seriously injured, or both. Only then will we know what to do next," says Dr Avdić.

The police say the perpetrator of this horrific act has been identified.

"We carried out an on-site investigation and identified the perpetrator of the criminal offence, which the cantonal prosecutor has classified as the criminal offence of torturing and killing animals. We will hand M. S. over to the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office in Tuzla, together with our report, for further proceedings," the police said.

Two serious cases of animal torture and killing in two days. In Petrovo, a man shot a hunting Dachshund with a hunting rifle, wounded it, then walked up to it and killed it with an axe.

The Husky from Rašljeva fared better: he survived, but most likely with a permanent disability. The public in Gračanica and the surrounding area, as well as in Petrovo, are demanding harsh punishment in both cases.

The examination of the injured dog has been completed and it has been established that the unfortunate animal has several fractures.

Both of his femurs are broken, and he also suffered a fracture of the lower leg, the veterinary station caring for him announced.

"Fortunately, the spine, pelvis and vital organs have no major damage. Orthopaedic surgery on one leg is scheduled for Wednesday in cooperation with the PET DOC 4U Veterinary Station in Lukavac, while the fracture on the other leg will be treated three days after the first procedure. Fingers crossed for the innocent dog," the Gračanica Veterinary Station said.

They also stressed that no donations will be needed and that the Gračanica Veterinary Station will cover all the costs.

"We will fund the surgical procedures, the post-operative therapy and the care of the dog," they said.
