Description

The Husse dog training clicker is a metal strip in a small plastic box that makes a distinctive click when pressed. The click tells your dog at once that a reward is coming.

  • Product description

A clicker is a metal strip in a small plastic box that makes a distinctive clicking sound when pressed. A click is much quicker and clearer than saying "good dog" and much more effective than using treats alone. The sound of the click tells the dog immediately that it will get a reward for what it has just done.

How to easily teach your dog to respond to the clicker

    • Start with your dog in a calm and quiet environment. Have a handful of favourite treats ready. Ideally, the dog should be hungry at the time.
    • Press the clicker and immediately give your dog a treat. Repeat this for about 5-10 minutes.
    • You can test your progress by clicking at a moment when your dog is not paying attention to you. If your dog reacts to the click by suddenly looking at you and asking for a treat, you are ready to move on.
    • Then start teaching your dog basic commands. Wait for your dog to do something you want, for example give you its paw, sit, or even look at you (if it has not done so until now), etc. When you see it, click and reward your dog.

Remember that the clicker is not a reward. The clicker is meant to mark which behaviour is correct, not to reward the behaviour. You will need to reward your dog with a treat after you click, because the treat is the reward.

  • Trainer's tip from My Dog

We use a dog training clicker in our own classes, because the click marks the exact moment of correct behaviour. First "charge" the clicker: in a quiet room, click and immediately give a treat, for 5 to 10 minutes. Then click only when your dog does what you ask, for example sits. Remember, the clicker is not the reward; every click is followed by a treat.
