Dogs can tell colours apart!

They can see grey, yellow and blue, but not green and red, or the other shades made by combining those colours, such as pink, orange or purple.

Intelligent creatures

American psychologists claim that a dog's intelligence is at the level of a two-year-old child. That means they can understand 200 words and solve simple maths problems. For example, they can use their intelligence to outsmart their owner and get an extra treat.

A dog's sense of smell

A dog's sense of smell is 10,000 to as much as 100,000 times more developed than a human's. So it is no wonder that they can follow all kinds of trails and can sniff out human diseases such as cancer.

Dogs feel jealousy

A study whose results were published in the journal "Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences" showed that dogs feel jealousy. The study involved dogs divided into two groups. The dogs in one group received a reward for successfully performing a trick, while the others did not. When they realised that, unlike the other dogs, they were doing everything "for free", they showed signs of jealousy.

They became agitated, scratched themselves and avoided the gaze of the rewarded dogs. They also stopped performing the tricks faster than the dogs that had been rewarded for their effort.
