Constitutional Court of Serbia Lets You Keep Three Dogs or Cats

The Constitutional Court of Serbia has declared unlawful the decision of the city authorities in Pančevo which prohibited keeping more than two dogs or two cats in homes.

The Constitutional Court's decision, published on its official website, specifies that the court found that a provision of the Decision on Keeping Domestic Animals in the Territory of the City of Pančevo is not in accordance with the law, in the part which reads: “Keeping more than two dogs or two cats is permitted if the owner or keeper obtains a document from the competent authority confirming that the conditions are met, in accordance with the law.”

After protests by the citizens of Pančevo over this decision by the city authorities a few years ago, and the fining of those who did not comply with it, Pančevo announced that a new decision would be adopted, and it is now certain that it must be.

The Constitutional Court made its decision at a session held on 16 March.
