Otitis (ear infection) in dogs and cats

Causes

• Inflammation of the ear canal
• Bacteria
• Fungi

Do not confuse this with ear mites.

Examples of dog breeds more prone to ear infections:

• Long, heavy or floppy ears (Spaniels, Cocker Spaniels): the ear completely covers the ear canal, creating an environment favourable for bacteria to develop
• Long and narrow ear canal (German Shepherd).
• Hairy-eared breeds/dogs with hair growing in the inner canal (Spaniels, Poodles, Bichons, Maltese): long-haired breeds grow much more hair in the ear canal. This has the greatest effect on moisture being retained in the ear.
• Breeds with abundant earwax (Spaniels, Labradors, Springers).
• Breeds with a winding ear canal that contains deposits (Shar Pei, Chow Chow).

Cats are also prone to this infection (e.g. the Persian cat).

Prevention

The key to healthy ears is keeping them clean. Routine ear cleaning can reduce the chance of an ear infection developing. Check your pet's ears at least once a week. A small amount of earwax in the ear is considered normal. If your dog swims a lot, has floppy ears or a history of ear problems, routine cleaning is recommended (three times a week). However, we must warn you that cleaning the ears too often or too roughly can damage the ear canal. Your vet will determine and advise you on the correct care routine for your dog

Remember, if your dog or cat shows serious discomfort, the ears smell bad, or the ear canals look very unusual, you need to contact a vet as soon as possible!

Properties of the ingredients in the Oron solution

• Organically processed apple cider vinegar. Antifungal properties. Apple cider vinegar contains acetic acid, which helps dissolve earwax. It has antiseptic and disinfectant properties.
• Concentrated, purified and filtered sea water. Rich in trace elements that help clean the ear.
• Tea tree essential oil: a powerful antiseptic, soothing, anti-inflammatory action against fungal infections.
• Camphor essential oil: powerfully anti-infective, antiviral, antiseptic. Stimulates the immune system.
• Paperbark tree essential oil: antiviral, anti-infective, faster healing, relieves pain.

Use:

Use once or twice a week to clean your dog's ears. When the dog's ear is irritated, it is recommended to use it once a day for the following seven days. Apply drops into the ear canal without creating a vacuum with the applicator tip. After applying, massage the base of the ear back and forth for 30 seconds. Leave the product in the ears for a few minutes and prevent the animal from shaking its head. Use a compress to remove excess solution. A gentle, non-aggressive product that can be used on irritated ears.For external use only

Do not use the product if the eardrum is damaged!

Use an ear cleaner for dogs like Oron once or twice a week; dogs with floppy ears and dogs that swim a lot benefit most. Get your dog used to ear checks step by step: touch the ear, treat, and only then the drops. After applying, massage the base of the ear for 30 seconds. If an ear smells bad or your dog shows pain, contact your vet.

How often should I use it?

Once or twice a week. When the ear is irritated, once a day for the next seven days is recommended.

When should I not use it?

Do not use it if the eardrum is damaged.
