I would rather buy a dog a roast pig than buy a man a Coca-Cola

When a man reaches the age at which he easily recognises human pretence, he builds around himself a small world of only those chosen friends he is sure have no ulterior motives or hidden intentions. Until then he gets burned many times by human malice, but also gains rich experience in reading people's intentions. With dogs it is very different. Even when a dog bites you, it does so honestly, without any calculation, and its reactions are always pure and clear. It is easy with them, because dogs cannot pretend. If they love you, they show it sincerely, and if they do not love you, they show that sincerely too. In all the years I have worked with dogs, both kinds have always been dear to me and I have never divided them, all because of their honesty, which we humans lack so badly. If we were just a little more honest, everything would somehow be nicer and better. I think our ancestors knew this much better than we do, and that they lived more honourably and more honestly than we do today.

That is why I often say: "I would rather buy a dog a roast pig than buy a man a Coca-Cola." However anyone chooses to interpret that.
