Today's technology has opened the door for everyone to have an opinion on everything, regardless of their knowledge, experience or the road they have actually travelled. Words are spoken easily these days and spread even more easily.
When you look at the amount that is written, the analyses on offer and the firmness of the views expressed, you would think that behind them stand years of work, mistakes, failures and learning.
And then you stop and look at the deeds. And you realise that, in most cases, they do not match the words that were spoken.
In that gap between what is said and what is actually done, ulterior motives are born that certainly have no honest intention. It is as if a time has come in which lies are louder than the truth and the truth is quieter than ever before. Words have become light, almost weightless, while deeds confirm what is said less and less often.
And so, slowly, even the most beautiful professions, the ones that should carry meaning, creation and joy, begin to lose their beauty. Not because of the work itself, but because of the people who bring insincerity, empty words and a lack of responsibility into it. Yes, exactly that: bad people turn the most beautiful professions into bad ones.
Perhaps that is why it is more important today than ever that people are measured not by what they say but by what they do, because the truth still lives in deeds, not in empty words.
All in all, each of us will leave something behind. Some will leave deeds and some misdeeds, and that is how we will be remembered.
That is why it is so much easier with animals: with them there is never any pretending. Even when a dog bites you, it does so honestly, and that brings us to the point that the friends we have do not need to be educated, rich or successful; it is far more important that they are honest, sincere and will not betray us.
So little is needed for the world to change, and yet we are so far from the basic principles of living together.
