Product details
Husse Fibre Mash is an easily digestible recovery mash for horses and ponies, an alternative to classic bran mash, developed for hydration and recovery after intense work. Sold in a 10 kg bag.
Product description
Complementary feed for horses. Fibre Mash is an alternative to classic bran mashes, an ideal, easily digestible feed for horses and ponies after intense work. Traditionally, mashes were made from wheat bran and were fed irregularly, often only once a week. It was mistakenly believed that this helped prevent digestive problems. In fact, the laxative effect of wheat bran may be the result of mild digestive upset caused by a sudden change in diet.
The long-held belief that bran helped warm a horse is untrue; much more body heat is produced by the fermentation of forage in the hindgut. The problem with feeding bran alone is made worse by the fact that bran contains very little calcium and essential amino acids such as lysine.
Today nutritionists rarely recommend feeding bran mashes, so what is the alternative? Fibre Mash is an innovative, quick-soaking, nutritionally balanced mash and is ideal when it comes to either hydration or feeding succulent/wet feed, e.g. when on dry forage in winter.
We know that forage alone will not provide a fully balanced diet and this can contribute to problems such as reduced immune function and poor hoof quality. Fibre Mash is formulated to provide your horse with optimal levels of all essential vitamins and minerals and, when fed daily, will help keep your horse in top condition this winterIn winter, our horses' diet becomes mainly dry; conserved forage (i.e. hay/haylage) contains considerably less water than fresh grass. This, combined with the fact that our horses may drink as much as 12% less water on cold days, can contribute to problems including reduced performance, increased risk of digestive upset and reduced appetite. A soaked mash will help add water to your horse's diet and, what is more, has been shown to help improve overall water intake compared with feeding dry feed with concentrates. This becomes very important if your horse has to be stabled, e.g. in terrible weather.
For fussy horses, Fibre Mash is simply irresistible! Rich in calories and essential amino acids, it helps with weight gain and helps promote a great topline. Linseed oil helps encourage a shiny coat, while alfalfa stems help maximise digestive efficiency.
Fibre Mash is also a godsend for horses that have difficulty swallowing or chewing, including veterans with dental problems or horses prone to choke. It is ideal for disguising unpalatable medicines or powdered supplements. Remember never to use water warmer than lukewarm, otherwise you will destroy all those beneficial vitamins in Fibre Mash.
Fibre Mash is:- Soya free: Soya used in animal feed as a protein source is mostly GMO soya. We want our Fibre Mash to be GMO free, so no soya!
- Free from artificial colours.
- Free from flavour enhancers: What your horse smells is natural.

Prepare this recovery mash for horses by mixing it with 50% lukewarm water and leaving it for 15 minutes to soak and cool. For maintenance feed 200 to 500 g per 100 kg, so 1 to 2.5 kg a day for a 500 kg horse; it is a guideline. It is especially useful in winter, when horses eat dry hay and drink less.
